Research: Innovation with Mr Julian Feller

Julian Feller Research Reflection

"What research study has had the greatest impact on you?"

Research Paper:

Return to the Preinjury Level of Competitive Sport After Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction Surgery

Younger Patients Are at Increased Risk for Graft Rupture and Contralateral Injury After Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction

Journal:

The American Journal of Sports Medicine [both]

Author/s:

Ardern CL, Webster KE, Taylor NF, Feller JA.

Webster KE, Feller JA, Leigh WB, Richmond AK.

Why this paper?

From the first paper we realised that the number of people getting back to their pre-injury level of sport after ACL reconstruction was nowhere near as high as we had thought. With the second one, that was when we recognised what our re-injury rate really was. Particularly in young people. So they are both papers that had a huge influence because the results weren’t as good as I thought they would be. My own results weren’t as good as I thought they were. That has driven a lot of our own research since then. It’s made me think about it a lot. The papers were a recognition that I wasn’t getting the outcomes that I thought I was.
